Maybe you came from teaching, HR, operations, facilitation, or another field entirely. Now you're expected to support learning, work with stakeholders, and make decisions about a profession you may still be figuring out yourself.

There are a lot of ways into L&D. But once you're here, knowing how to facilitate or build a course is only part of the job.
I Slipped & Fell Into L&D: Now What? helps you understand the work, recognize what you already bring, and build a stronger foundation for growing in L&D. Built on the H.E.L.P. model, the course isn't about turning you into an expert overnight. It's about giving you a stronger foundation for becoming one.

HONOR WHAT YOU ALREADY BRING
Recognize the strengths you already bring to L&D and where you still need to grow.

EXPAND YOUR DEFINITION OF THE JOB
Look beyond courses and understand L&D's broader role in improving performance.

LEARN THE BUSINESS BEFORE THE TOOLS
Connect your work to what the organization and the people you support actually need.

PARTNER, DON'T JUST PRODUCE
Ask better questions and begin building stronger stakeholder partnerships.

You'll apply what you're learning to your actual work.
Throughout the course, you'll complete four action-learning assignments and work with a manager, mentor, or experienced colleague who can provide feedback.
Then use a short checklist:
Assess where you are now and identify your development goals.
Turn your previous experience into strengths you can intentionally use in L&D.
See beyond training and understand the broader work of building capability and improving performance.
Get closer to the business so you can better understand the problems your learning work is meant to solve.
Practice asking better questions and approaching stakeholder requests with a more consultative mindset.
Measure your progress, review what you've learned, and build your 90-day development plan.
Add a footnote if this applies to your business
I slipped and fell into L&D too.
What started as an unexpected career move became more than two decades of learning and development experience across organizations including Amazon, UnitedHealthcare, Citigroup, and Expedia. Today, I also teach Human Resource Development at Texas A&M University.
I built this course to give new practitioners something I didn't have when I started: a clearer understanding of the work and a practical way to start getting better at it.
