I’m Dr. Tekeisha Zimmerman, founder of Masterpiece in Progress Coaching & Development, and someone who knows what it feels like to lead while holding grief, responsibility, and expectations that rarely pause.
This work didn’t start in a classroom or a coaching manual. It started in real life when I was navigating the personal loss of my son while managing teams, building programs, and trying to keep it all together. While I was fortunate to have great support from my leaders at Expedia during this time, I saw firsthand how the workplace often asks us to shrink our emotions to fit into a calendar invite.
So I created something different.
Masterpiece in Progress exists to help professionals lead with clarity, even when life feels unclear. Whether you're processing personal loss, adjusting to a new role, or guiding a team through change, this is a space where your humanity and ambition don’t have to compete.

My Background
Dr. Tekeisha Zimmerman is a leadership and wellness coach, corporate learning director, and Clinical Professor of Human Resource Development at Texas A&M. With over 15 years of experience in leadership development, talent strategy, and learning design, she leads experiences that help leaders grow with clarity, presence, and purpose. Through coaching and corporate work, she supports professionals navigating change, grief, and ambition.
Dr. Zimmerman is a published author and speaker, and has led sessions at national conferences like ATD ICE that blend data, storytelling, and emotional intelligence. She’s also the creator of The Leadership Jukebox, where she shares leadership lessons through the lens of hip hop and R&B music and the writer of The Monday Mourning Memo where she shares tips to help Black professionals hold space for grief and ambition in demanding workspaces.
