MY JOURNEY  

The biggest silencer of my own voice was me.

When I launched Masterpiece in Progress Coaching & Development, I was six months into my grief journey after losing my son to gun violence. I was trying to “get back to me”—but the person I was fighting to return to no longer existed.

I started coaching on topics that felt safe—

🆕 first-time leadership
🏆 high performance

These were my safe space because I'd coached to these for years. But my heart was pulling me toward something deeper: helping Black professionals reclaim their passion for work while navigating grief, and finding balance in a world that often expects us to keep moving, no matter the weight we carry.

I silenced myself because I thought I wasn’t qualified. If I had failed at protecting my son, how could I guide anyone else?

But I’ve learned that Black grief is different—it’s layered, unspoken, and often unsupported in professional spaces. And yet, we still have to show up. We still have to perform. I know that struggle intimately, and I refuse to let others navigate it alone.

So I step forward—not just as a coach, but as an ally.

Masterpiece in Progress is more than career coaching. It’s a space for Black professionals working through grief to find balance, rediscover joy, and excel in their careers—not by forcing themselves back into an old version of who they were, but by embracing who they’ve become.
